Trump: "We Do To Them What They Do To Us"

This is what Trump actually recently said, when justifing his new worldwide tariffs.

There is something to say for those tariffs since I noticed all those countries (and it's a long list) have themselves instated tariffs on US exports many years ago, and Trump's tariffs imposed on those countries are only 50% of theirs.

So that's that.

But this is not what Trump was mentioning. What he said was "they have been treating us badly, very badly" and more of the same. The target audience of these words were obviously not highly educated people but rather the sort that reacts to elementary stimuli.

And then "we are only doing to them what they are doing to us".

In other words, if I have to spell it out... an eye for an eye.

Is this Christian? This tells you all you need to know.

That’s that?

That’s the point.

That’s that?

That’s the point.

I think the correct expression is "there's that".

My mistake!

But yes indeed, Trump's tariffs in each case are as far as I can see only 50% of the tariff originally imposed by the incriminated country on the US.

So what's your point exactly?

Katya, do you know what "an eye for an eye" means and what its source is?

I don't think you do.

It appears to be the basic justification for Trump's tariffs, judging from his own words.

Elaine, it looks like you don't like Trump but why wouldn't you? Trump is very pro Israel and he has never been shy about it.

What did you study at university, Elaine?

I took 4 years of French, German, and math. Multivariable calculus, and a few extra math classes I don't remember much. I fell in love with geology, but then I took a computer science class and I was doomed to be a coder. I took physics for scientists and engineers. I damned near got killed during the Rodney King riots, and both my kids were attacked. So I said, FUCK Atlanta and moved to a small town.

They did have a college there, but I decided to go to nursing school. So I took 2 years of biology classes, microbiology (pathogens and stuff) and lots of chemistry.

I walked out of nursing school one day when the Teacher gave me detention because they wanted me to take a guy to "a gas station or something" ... you know, patient dumping. I refused and walked. But that hospital still engages in patient dumping, so never go to Wellstar hospitals.

Anyways, after all that math, physics, biology and electronics, it was chemistry that brought it all together in my head. Math was fun and easy ... learning about complex numbers and stuff like that. But in chemistry studying atomic structure (along with the physics) it sorta all came together.

One of curmy's friends (a medical doc and PhD in England) queried me for a few hours during a long drive and determined that in most of the sciences I had a graduate students understanding of science, as in how they do the things in the UK.

So. No degree in anything, but a shit-ton of classes in lots of stuff. I love the STEM classes the best, but I also really enjoyed the english classes because I loved reading Homer, Virgil, Marcus Aurealus and Cicero. Along with Shakespeare and the Romantic era British poets.

After I met curmy I read lots of his library in magic, hermetics, egyptian stuff, and british druidism. It was not as interesting as the colleges I took in classes, until I started reading the old Hindu Vedas. So I you can think in math, the ancient sanskrit becomes a lot more understandable.

There are probably more things that I studied, but I've forgotten them these days.

It has nothing to do with Trump's feelings about Israel. My 2nd husband was Jewish. But I'm not because After studying the 3 monotheistic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and reading a little bit about Islam) I just don't see much difference between them. Plus they're boring as hell. The Abrahamic god seems to enjoy sending peeps to hell, more than anything else.

I've been to Israel, drove up and down it, and across the middle and it is a very, very small country. So when either side bombs the other, they are bombing themselves. So I pray for the people I met in israel - the Israelis who wouldn't let me into the temple for a bar mitzvah, (I had to watch through a screen because 'females bring evil influences') and I also pray for the palestinian dude who offered to buy me for all his camels, because he said I have a kind face and blue eyes. I told him no, but he can buy my husband for one chicken.

As for how I feel about Trump, I don't have any strong feelings about him. I think he may be quite stupid, based on the things he says. I think he has no integrity, because almost all of his statements contradict each other. So I ignore what he says and concentrate on what he does. Et voilà! He says what he wants to do, and then he does it. People get in an uproar blaming Musk, Trump's sidekick du jour, but it won't be long before Elon is back to being human, and has control over nothing but his piles of cash. What people don't understand is that Musk is the "fall guy" ... the one to blame when everything goes to shit. Then Trump with emerge, covered in gold glitter and smiling at everyone.

So if you want to understand Trump, read about Julius Caesar, Mark Antony and Octavius. If you want to understand economics, read about the 1920's, and 30's, which created an economy so bad that the average life span in America was 30, half of all children died before 5, and the only thing that could pull us out of it was a nice, big war.
So we fought the Japanese after Pearl Harbor and fought the Nazis in Europe. Of course after so many troops died in combat, we needed more people to buy useless crap. So they called us "baby boomers". You may have noticed that Trump is already talking about that.

This is what the old teachers meant when they said, "Read between the lines."

Yeah I guess.

You sure you didnt take a course in nuclear physics as well, Elaine? Try to remember.

Besides, I didn't know in American universities you could take courses totally unrelated to each other, all spread out over diverse faculties... but then that's my own ignorance I suppose.

BTW it's Marcus Aurelius, not "Aurealus".

Just sayin' Elaine.

RE: Trump: "We Do To Them What They Do To Us"

As for Trump... I happen to just have watched a documentary about Nero and the burning of Rome in 64 AD. Many historians still believe Nero is to be blamed for the arson, but there seems to be little to no evidence it was of his doing (even though he accused Christians of having done it).

But what's remarkable is the fact that Nero built some very large and opulent palaces on the central locations where the fire had destroyed everything and where before the fire a large number of apartment blocks were housing common Romans - palaces meant for his aristocrat guests to revel and enjoy life's pleasures.

If that does not sound reminiscent of "Trump Gaza" I don't know what does.
