I was referring to The Great Depression in the US. After the Jazz Age of the 1920's (also known as the Roaring 20's) the stock market crashed in October 1929, everything really went to shit here in the USA. My grandparents lived through this, as well as family friends and other relatives. Unemployment, starvation, half of the farmers lost their land, etc.
