Arakawa was discovered lying on the bathroom floor of the couple's home on her right side, with an open prescription bottle of pills scattered across a nearby countertop. No indication has been given as to what the pills were and whether they had been prescribed to Hackman or his wife.

A space heater was found next to Arakawa's head, which investigators believe may have fallen.

Hackman was found dead in a mud room off the couple's kitchen, the warrant said. Police first spotted his legs on the ground in what appeared to be a mud room.

The Oscar-winning Superman star was fully clothed, in a gray sweat pants, a blue in color long-sleeve t-shirt, brown slippers.

His sunglasses and walking cane were found next to his body, suggesting he may have died of a sudden fall.

Firefighters were called to the property but there were no signs of a gas leak.

Hackman's daughter Elizabeth had speculated earlier on Thursday that her father and stepmother may have been killed by a carbon monoxide leak.

One of the couple's three dogs, a German Shepherd, was found dead about 10 to 15 feet away from Betsy in a closet just off the bathroom.

Earlier reports had suggested the animal was found dead in a kennel. The couple's two other dogs were unharmed.

One of the surviving dogs was found alive close to Betsy's body, with a second roaming the property.

The couple's front door was open and there were no signs of forced entry.

Santa Fe Sheriff's Department has said there is no suggestion of foul play but that an investigation is ongoing.

My theory

He suffers heart attack and falls.

She finds him and decides she will kill herself.

She locks the dog in the closet, the dog that is known to bite.

She opens the door so the other two dogs can run free.

She goes in the bathroom and swallows a bunch of pills and dies.

Anyway, another great film of his was 'Rat 22' where he pilots a helicopter behind enemy lines, mowing down everything in his path, lots of hand-to-hand combat. At the finale, he shoots Chuck Norris in a Soviet MiG out of the sky to save America from Radical Islam.

I believe that Gene Hackman is America's finest mummified actor at this point. I might otherwise say George C. Scott, always loved his work, but he was cremated, so that pretty much ended his career, such a thing would end anyone's career I suppose.

It would not be uncommon for groundskeepers to not notice and they would not inquire as to not invade privacy. They make $ for a reason.

Gene Hackman Died a Week After Wife's Death

He Died of Heart Disease, She Died From Hantavirus....#Breaking
Gene Hackman died a full week after his wife Betsy Arakawa died and lived in the house as her body lay in the bathroom ... this according to New Mexico officials....New Mexico officials concluded Betsy died February 11, and the cause of death was Hantavirus ... a serious and rare disease which can be fatal.

Gene died February 17. An autopsy revealed the 95-year-old had a history of cardiovascular disease, along with advanced Alzheimer's. He had a history of heart attacks and high blood pressure. Although the medical investigators did not use the words "heart attack," it seemed they were going in that direction, although the medical investigator said she could not squarely say that was the cause. They did say heart disease was the cause of death, and Alzheimer's was a significant contributing factor.

The Sheriff says it appears Betsy's body was in the house for a week as Gene lived in the same house until his death a week later. Investigators made it clear ... Gene was in poor health and the Alzheimer's may have created confusion, which could explain why he never called authorities.

Investigators say it's possible Gene did not know his wife had died, because of the Alzheimer's.

Officials ruled out carbon monoxide and gas leaks.

As for the dog that died, he had a procedure at a veterinary clinic and was in a crate when found dead. A necropsy is pending.
