But I get what he is saying, and there is some truth to it. First, Black and Latino, and women of all groups have not been involved in testing with a lot of the generic drugs on the market today. True. What he is in-artfully talking about is what is called a stratified sample. That means that every sex, gender, race and ethnicity are included in a testing sample proportionate to their representation in the population. This is a very expensive research standard because you have to make sure that you can gather data on a large enough sample for each strata (e.g. white male, Hispanic female, Black male, etc.) and then you have to take into account the number of people who may drop out. So for each stratification, you would need at least 1,000 to 1,500 for each group because some will drop out of the study. Conducting well designed research studies in the health care industry are very expensive for this particular reason.
