The FCC Is Asking For Public Comments On Social Media Censorship

The Federal Trade Commission invites public comment to better understand how technology platforms deny or degrade (such as by “demonetizing” and “shadow banning”) users’ access to services based on the content of the users’ speech or their affiliations, including activities that take place outside the platform.

In doing so, technology platforms may employ opaque or unpredictable internal procedures to restrict users’ access to services, often without any advance notice, leaving affected users with little ability to mitigate the related harm. Users may also receive little information about the alleged violations that led to their dismissal or downgrading on the platform.

Technology platforms may similarly deny their users a meaningful opportunity to challenge or appeal the platforms’ decisions. Such actions by technology platforms may violate their terms of service or other policies (collectively, “policies”) and flout users’ reasonable expectations based on the technology platforms’ public representations. Such policies and practices, which may affect competition, may have resulted from a lack of competition or may have been the product of anti-competitive conduct.

FTC staff is interested in understanding how consumers have been harmed—including by potentially unfair or deceptive acts or practices, or potentially unfair methods of competition— by technology platforms that limit users’ ability to share their ideas or affiliations freely and openly. FTC staff encourages members of the public, including current and former employees of technology platforms, to comment on any issues or concerns that are relevant to the FTC’s consideration of this topic, including, but not limited to, the following questions:

LOL I posted this and a link back to Alien-Earth.

This is one of the most heavily censored websites. Elaine Monogue bans conservatives and pro Trump users. She also Posts the I.P. address of the people she bans. She has several registered members whish she allows and encourages to bully other users. She is on SSI and SS and Government housing assistance and begs for Donations with a goal set of $1000 a month, which I am sure she is not reporting to the IRS.

I have filed a complaint also. Not just against Alien-Earth, but also against Lunatic outpost and Fetid Poo Pit.

My complaint has nothing to do with censorship, it addresses the Bullying and Harassment that has resulted in the Suicide of 26 members of these communities in the past 15 years.

16 of those were on Lunatic Outpost
7 of those were on Fetid Poo Pit
3 of those were on Alien-Earth

I feel the Owners and Moderators could have done more to prevent these needless deaths and should be held accountable.

When the "One Legged Tranny" killed himself I took a screengrab of the announcement and disgusting ridicule that followed and saved it to a folder. Over the years that folder has sadly grown to 26 of those announcements. I think there are others that died alone, and had no friends or family to report the grim news.

Last night I created a PDF of the screengrabs I have and posted it as an attachment with my complaint hoping the Dead may get some justice.

Under current Section 230: 47 U.S.C. § 230 she is fine.

For the uninformed, that means that she is not responsible for content posted by her users.

Even if that changes, and people file complaints of harassment about weenie team 3, nothing is going to happen. But it would make her liable if something does. Unless someone makes a serious, credible threat, and we know how that went.

With smusk firing everyone, there will not be anyone to enforce it.

1. Section 230 embodies that principle that we should all be responsible for our own actions and statements online, but generally not those of others. The law prevents most civil suits against users or services that are based on what others say.

2. Section 230 protects online platforms from liability for some types of speech by their users

If it did Elaine would have to prove the posts she removes are harmful to others, if she is sued.

I'm not an idiot. I have received death threats over this forum. based on 230 if someone killed me, she would not be liable even if I reported the threats to her.

If there are changes made, given that circumstance, she would be somehow liable for not providing the information about who made those death threats were they be enacted.
