White House blacklists CNN because it won't 'promote' Trump's agenda

The Trump White House won't be sending any spokespeople to appear on CNN because the network doesn't promote the administration's agenda, reports Politico.

A White House spokesperson said that CNN was 'fake news,' and that no Trump surrogates would appear on the channel - which already employs Trump-boosters Kayleigh McEnany, Jeffrey Lord and former Sen. Rick Santorum. The ban is not permanent, the spokesperson said.

'We're sending surrogates to places where we think it makes sense to promote our agenda,'

A CNN reporter told Politico that 'the White House is trying to punish the network and force down its ratings.'

'They're trying to cull CNN from the herd,' the reporter told Politico.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and senior counselor Kellyanne Conway have already been conspicuously absent from the network's programming in recent weeks.

At an event at the George Washington University, Spicer denied that CNN was being frozen out, pointing to the fact he hasn't refused to answer CNN's questions in the regular White House press briefings.

Spicer also said, however: 'I'm not going to sit around and engage with people who have no desire to actually get something right.'

As The Daily Beast noted, 'despite the Obama administration's stated animus toward Fox News, White House officials like press secretary Robert Gibbs and senior adviser David Axelrod appeared on Fox News Sunday in the first few weeks after President Obama's 2009 inauguration.'
